Abstract

Libraries with open service systems (open access) allow users to directly interact with library collections. After making observations at the RHS Library, the authors obtained data on the number of book collections as many as 6892, which were divided into 23 categories. However, in determining the position and order of placement of book collections, it is still not regular. This makes it difficult for visitors to find books, and creates difficulties for librarian when looking for and placing books back in their original place after someone borrows them. To determine the value of each gene generated, the authors used the Cheapest Insertion Heuristic (CIH) algorithm method. To analyze the available data, this study used the Root Mean Square Error (RMSE) method. The results obtained from the genetic algorithm process are based on the smallest RMSE value, which is 34.99684026, with a book placement pattern based on the shelf code 9-2-21-17-10-5-23-8-19-4-18-6-15- 13-16-3-22-20-14-11-7-12-1.
